Food Movies Department
After a long interval, another food movie. Another nationality and another culture. This one tells of an extended family of Tunisian-French living in Mediterranean France. The father/grandfather is let go from his shipyard job, so he uses his severance pay to start a Tunisian restaurant that will employ his entire family.
Lots of intra-family drama, and some fine characterizations. Unfortunately, although a pot of couscous plays a central role, the food otherwise is little on display. So, as a movie, B+ (it did win the French Cesar), but as a food movie, only a C+. In French with subtitles. The Secret of the Grain.
