Holi 17

That evening we ventured out again, to one of the many ritualistic
burnings of an effigy of the Hindu demoness, Holika.  The fact that
Holi celebrates the possing of Winter into Summer appears to be
wholly coincidental with Holika's ritual burning.  (The pyre, by the way,
was always composed of dried disks of cow manure, at least as far
as we could tell.)
