Letters by the Brothers Langtree

Three sons of Methodist itinerant English-Irish preacher Matthew Langtree immigrated to the United States in 1831-32, James Hope Langtree, Samuel Daly Langtree and Caleb Langtree.  During 1832-33 each of them wrote at least one letter home; Samuel wrote seven.  The letters were saved by their brother Joshua, still living in Ireland, and bound into a small red book (see Introduction linked to below).

The letters were transcribed, then retranscribed, and now I have scanned and OCR'ed the most recent transcription so they may be presented in searchable format online.  Digitally converting the letters also permitted an examination of their contents from an historical perspective, adding annotations as appropriate.  PDFs of each letter (plus an Introduction and a final letter James wrote sometime in 1841-44) are listed and linked to below.

(James was my great great grandfather, whose history was rather checkered.  Samuel and Caleb were my 3rd great uncles; both went on to achieve some fame in the U.S., Samuel more so than Caleb, although Samuel's promise was cut short by his early death.)
